Western Rivers Flyfisher reports

Steve Schmidt (Western Rivers ) reported - 2 - Good fly fishing: One of the most consistent months of the year is a around the corner, April. Come this month winters Midges begin to yield to the years first and most anticipated mayfly hatch, Blue Wing Olives. They are already on the water and for the next several weeks those who fish the Green will enjoy good to excellent dry fly, nymph and streamer fishing without being incumbered by a lot of anglers. For some reason, April never gets busy until after tax day, April 15th. Doesn't have anything to do with the fishing. So file early and take advantage of a relatively quiet river corridor and some very good fishing. Our guides have been encouraging their clients to dress warm. Our season has been a little cooler than in the past, which is great for the hatches, but leaving some of their clients unprepared for the weather. For now the first two sections are fishing well. Red Creek, with the warming weather has added a little color to the lower sections of the Green, but this still leaves plenty of water to fish. Midges begin the day and are joined by springs Blue Wings around mid morning. Hatches will last until mid afternoon and are best in those area, for those are familiar with the Green, around Little Hole. With the water we are going to have, it going to be an excellent year, especially the later in the summer, July and August. These month are always good, but will be even better this year due to the excellent snow pack we received throughout Utah this season. (12/30/08)
Steve Schmidt (Western Rivers ) reported - 2 - Good fly fishing: This will be the first winter reprieve we've had since Christmas and it's what we have been waiting for. Midge hatches have been good, but the snow and cold have kept even the die hards at bay. Unlike last year, flows are stable this winter. There is some snow within the corridor, more than in years past as for the first time in a decade we have exceed normal precipitation amounts. Should you head there, it's still winter, dress accordingly. This is one of the best times of year to fish the Green River; quiet, great dry fly fishing opportunities, especially with the high pressure and warmer temperatures that we have moving into the area over the next 10 days.
