Steve Park (valeeka1) described
the LaPrele Creek, Wyoming
This is a very under-fished mountain tributary of the North Platte River. Highway 91 (paved), southwest of Douglas, Wy. or North of Medicine Bow, over the mountains (closed in winter). Almost all private land. This little stream roars during spring snow melt, freezes solid in cold winters, so only strong healthy fish. Brookies at high elevations, Rainbows and Browns lower. There are no hatchery fish planted. A good place for all levels of flyfishers. Waders help where brush crowds stream banks (walk the middle). Great scenery and wildlife everywhere. June is blue ribbon season, but fishing good from late April to August.
LaPrele Preserve allows catch & release fly fishing only. Over 10 years of restricting fishing has resulted in real trophy catches and lots of fun at this property. Camps and cabins make for a fun stay. (08/30/15)
