Jim Gould (Flyfishnut)
Fly Fishing the West Branch of the DuPage is an enjoyable and easy wading river. There are deep pools, log jams, boulders, gravel bottom and side bank overhangs to hold large Bronzebacks. The water clarity seems to improve each year. Springtime is a great time to seek out hungry smallies on clouser minnows, matukas, streamers or bead head olive wooly buggers in deep pools. Early summer begins the spawn against the banks where smallies become aggressive and strike most wet flies that are stripped past their beds. Hot summer days the action just gets better with top water action in the early morning and wet flies/streamers during the day/afternoon. During dusk, bright poppers stripped along banks and then paused for several seconds bring strikes. (1/19/13)
