South Platte River (Dream Stream) reports

Andy Idema (aidema) reported - 3 - Fair fly fishing: Fished the Dream Stream today in ridiculous winds. Got a decent brown on a green copper john size 18 and missed several really nice fish on different streamers. Wind was super obnoxious and so was missing the biggens but it was still a good trip. My buddy got 3 small rainbows. There were some really nice fish rising when the wind would let up but I couldn't see a lot of insect activity so I'm assuming it was midges??? Not sure. (03/21/11)

There has been a dense Trico hatches in the a.m., followed by pmd's late morning/early afternoon, and sporadic caddis and yellow sallies in the afternoon.  The hatches have been good, but the dry fly fishing is inconsistent. Andy Idema (aidema) reported - 2 - Good fly fishing: Fished the Dream Stream (Spinney Mile) on 7/14/2010 and 7/15. Got there Thursday night and ran into a really thick caddis hatch but the wind was definitely killing the rises. There were some, but not many fish feeding. I did hook two nice fish on a Matt Guymon streamer. Friday morning around 9:30 there were a lot of Tricos in the air and I saw some incredible fish coming out of the water for these flies. There was one fish (he was in the "riffle" part of the picture I'll post with this report) that would put his nose up and then swim across the riffle and eddy behind it swirving to get as many tricos as he could. Never seen that before and the fish was at least 24". I fished that run for a good hour or so and was fruitless. I was hoping to continue to fish the spinner fall but the damn released and killed the hatch. Oh well... still a great trip. (07/30/10)
