Unnamed Creek Report (11/26/2015)

Unnamed Creek Report Details

Doug Harthan (dharthan) reported on the Unnamed Creek, Minnesota - We would like to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas. Winter is here though still mild by normal standards, we enjoyed some great fall smallmouth fishing this year on the river that lasted into November with the colder temps things have slowed down considerably. Still there is fly fishing opportunities all winter long here in the Midwest, in Minnesota we have three state parks that are open to catch and release trout fishing all winter long and the entire southeast will open to catch and release trout fishing January 1, 2016 until the regular opener the middle of April. In addition Wisconsin is opening their catch and release season January 2, 2016 on select streams so there are many opportunities to get out and do some fly fishing on those warmer winter days. If you want to drive some then southern Missouri has some fine trout fishing open year around in places and can be reached in a day’s drive and the weather is generally nicer then here in northern Minnesota. So the season never ends. Minnesota: East Beaver Creek in Beaver Creek Valley State Park; Forestville Creek in Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park; Canfield Creek in Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park; South Branch Root River in Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park; Trout Run Creek in Whitewater State Park and Middle Branch Whitewater River in Whitewater State Park Brook, Brown, Rainbow, Splake 9/15/15 - 4/15/16 Catch-and-release only Southeastern Minnesota counties of Dodge, Goodhue, Fillmore, Houston, Mower, Olmsted, Wabasha, Winona Brook, Brown, Rainbow, Splake 1/1/16 - 4/15/16 Catch-and-release only Wisconsin - An expanded early trout season that opens Jan. 2 will give Wisconsin anglers one more reason to love winter. The expanded early catch and release trout season runs from 5 a.m. on Jan. 2 until Friday May 6, 2016 on waters where the early season currently exists. The regular trout season opens Saturday, May 7, 2016. In addition to the early spring season, the fall harvest season will extend from the current Sept. 30 to Oct. 15 in 2016. (11/26/15)
