Bryan's reports

Bryan Welch (Gremlinsrus) reported - 3 - Fair fly fishing on the Westfield River, Massachusetts
Very hot day with no one on the river.. (97!) after a while of catching fry on just about any caddis/stimulator, a few strikes on a white zonker fished deep, the evening approached with cooling temps before the storm. I had quite a large trout (15-17 in?) jump completely out of the water to snatch a dragonfly about 10 ft away. this repeated every 15-20 mins in exactly the same spot. I tried floating a large stimulator pattern with no luck, then cast out my dragonfly and he took it immediately! unfortunately the pattern I was using caused twisting in my line and after a very brief fight the line snapped. I thought I lost him with the fly in his mouth until my fly came floating down the river right in front of me.. lol. well.. the evening hatches were active and I am sure there are holdovers from the massive stocking before labor day.. after the rains the water should be higher and colder so I am sure the fishing is better.. careful on the access road! and tight lines. The Quinnie is a feeder stream into the Wachusett resevoir. here are numerous rifles that hold brookies and rainbows. Around the bridges, a walking path that provides easy acess to most of the river, there are some deep pools. (10/17/10)
